The Film Industry Support Programme

Cinematography differs from other artistic fields at several levels. First, cinematographic works - movies link art, music, literature and performing. As regards to the content of such works they are a source of information about the society, its historical and sociological developments and also about cultural identity and diversity of the population. Furthermore, production, distribution and archiving of cinematographic works are associated with high financial demands. Finally, the cinematography experiences a large and ever-accelerating technological development over the last hundred years.

The intention of The Film Industry Support Programme (the "Programme") is to return the Czech film industry to film industry competitiveness not only at the European level.

The Programme is based on an analysis of foreign laws and is not only ensuring efficient utilization of funds but also effectively prevents misuse of the introduced system of support. The basis for payment of the grant is approval by the Programme Council, an advisory body to the Minister of Culture. All films must be in accordance with the rules of the European Commission (EC) and pass the cultural test.

The Programme guarantees that no 20 % grants of eligible costs will be provided before the Producer does not invest his own funds to the Czech services and goods. The important part of the Programme is also audit of the costs.

Applications are processed according to the date upon which the applications are received by the Provider. The system encourages producers to lodge applications on time, and thus ultimately facilitates the planning of provider’s expenditures. The most significant feature of the Programme is that grants are paid after the completion of the Project (after spending funds in the Czech Republic).
